The RGB interface is an interface method for transmitting video signals. It is mainly used to transmit image information from one device to a display device, such as a monitor, TV, or projector. The name of the RGB interface comes from the three basic color signals it transmits: red, green, and blue. By combining these three colors, images of various colors can be displayed.
In a TFT display, each pixel is composed of three independent RGB (red, green, blue) sub-pixels. To create full color, these sub-pixels are combined with the color filter and polarizing film of the LCD liquid crystal layer to control the amount of red, green and blue light, thereby reproducing up to 16 million color variations. The RGB interface of the LCD screen achieves rich color display by adjusting the input of the three channels of red, green and blue. Each channel represents the three colors of red, green and blue, covering almost all colors of human vision.
RGB is a device-dependent color model: different devices detect or reproduce a given RGB value differently, because different manufacturers use different color elements (such as phosphors or dyes) and their responses to individual red, green, and blue levels, and even the same device can behave differently at different times. Therefore, without color management, RGB values cannot define the same color across different devices.
The main purpose of the RGB color model is to perceive, represent, and display images in electronic systems such as televisions and computers, although it is also used in traditional photography and color lighting. Before the electronic age, the RGB color model already had a solid theoretical basis based on human perception of color.
Typical RGB input devices include color televisions and camcorders, image scanners, and digital cameras. Typical RGB output devices include televisions using various technologies (such as CRT, LCD, plasma, OLED, quantum dot, etc.), computer and mobile phone monitors, video projectors, multi-color LED displays, and large screen displays such as Jumbotron. On the other hand, color printers are not RGB devices, they are usually subtractive color devices using the CMYK color model.
Common RGB color mode applications can display colors on cathode ray tubes (CRT), liquid crystal displays (LCD), plasma displays, organic light emitting diodes (OLED), televisions or monitors, computers, or large screens. All pixels are located above the screen and equipped with three RGB light strips, which are very small but bright. At a common viewing distance, the individual glowing balls are difficult to distinguish, but the eyes see pure colors. All pixels are distributed on the surface formed by shadow reflection to form a color image.
When making a digital image, all pixels are presented in the computer memory or on the interface hardware (as a graphics table) with binary values for the red, green and blue components. After performing the correction, we convert the resulting values to brightness or reduced brightness to correct the gamma correction to correct the nonlinearity to the minimum configuration, thus producing a preview of the brightness on the display.
In digital image processing, each pixel can be represented in computer memory or interface hardware (such as a graphics card) as a binary value for red, green, and blue components. If managed properly, these values are converted to intensities or voltages through gamma correction to correct for the nonlinearities inherent in some devices, thereby reproducing the expected intensity on the display.
