What is a Graphic LCD Display?

According to the displayed content, dot matrix LCD screens are divided into character displays and graphic displays. The former is very simple and limited, and can only display characters, while the latter graphic LCD can display numbers, alphanumerics and graphics. They played a very important role in the early stages of LCD display history, and customers can selectively decide which one is the most suitable according to the actual situation of product use.

Graphic LCD displays are identified by the number of pixels in the vertical and horizontal directions. For example, a 128 x 64 dot matrix graphic display has 128 dots/pixels along the X axis or horizontal direction and 64 dots/pixels along the Y axis or vertical direction. Each of these dots, sometimes called a pixel, can be turned on and off independently of each other. The customer uses software to tell each dot when to turn on and off. Early engineering work had to be done pixel by pixel. Hot Display has a history of more than 20 years in the production and development of displays. The long-term experience accumulation has enabled Hot Display's graphic LCD products to have many images already in memory, which greatly helps engineers reduce the process of re-opening molds, enrich product sizes, categories, and enable products to be brought to market faster.

Fluid Selection for Graphic LCDs

There are many options for graphic LCD displays, all of which are derived from STN (S-Twisted Nematic). TN (Twisted Nematic), or HTN (High Performance TN) displays are rarely used for graphic LCD displays because of their poor contrast and narrow viewing angles.

Positive display can include: yellow-green STN, gray STN, positive FSTN;

Negative display can include: blue STN, negative FSTN, DFSTN negative display.

Graphic LCD backlight options:

LCD itself does not emit light, so when observing in dim conditions, it needs a backlight to be visible to the observer. The backlight of LCD is generally an LED light, and the colors available are yellow-green, white, and RGB red, green, and blue. According to the placement of the backlight, it can be divided into bottom backlight and side backlight.
